Probate Fees to Rise by 75% from July 2026

Markson & Co. Legal Team · 15 July 2024 · 4 min read

The government has announced significant increases to probate fees starting July 2026. Estates valued over £5,000 will see fees rise from the current flat rate to a tiered system reaching up to £300 for high-value estates.

This change emphasises the importance of early estate planning. Executors applying shortly before the change takes effect may wish to review timing with their advisers.

We expect the greatest practical impact to fall on estates where property values have risen sharply and where multiple grants are required across jurisdictions.
